greetings from Jennifer

Greetings from the Stevenjenny branch of the Durfy Dude Ranch. I think it's funny how we all look so much more comfortable in the Durfy family photo than in the nicey-nice ones. Except, Mom and Dad seem to be having trouble looking Durfy. One question I have often puzzled over is this: why is the durf factor so strong in the combined genes of these two relatively durfless people? (Multiple alleles maybe?)

Jake leaves for the BYU (as I remember hearing Grandpa Brown refer to it) this week. Paul, please take some time to de-bunk all the dating advice that Steve has given to Jake. (The last I heard he was telling Jake to buy some really tight pants and to perm his hair).

We're really excited to see some of you in the temple in Boise on September 12th. Steve and I went to the temple last Friday (we go to Louisville, which is about 1.5 hrs away), and I've been thinking all week-end about how wonderful it will be to be with some of you the next time we go.

Love,
Jennifer

  1. Jennifer -

I'm going to be in Provo this weekend. Tell Jake to send me his phone number in case Jana and I want to come engage in some kind of freshmen shenanigan. Actually, I might embarrass him. Either way, I should get his number so I can call him when I'm up there.

  3. Thanks Mark for getting this started. AS the durfless parent(I agree Jennifer) it is a pretty durfy family. We have had fun with Paul this week and I have included a description of this from my journal.

" This has been a good week. On Tues. we went over to Jackson lake with our motorboat and went water skiing. It was really beautiful. The lake was smooth, the sun was shining and the mountains(Tetons) were striking in the background. Just a lovely day. Paul did some wake boarding and we just enjoyed the setting.
Then Wed. we took a long hike. We started at 6AM from the trailhead at Teton canyon and hiked through the Alaskan Basin, over Hurricane pass(just below the Grand Teton), then down the south fork of the Cascade canyon, into the main Cascade canyon until we arrived finally at Jenny lake. This was a 20mile hike and took us just under 12 hours. We stoped just for only a 1/2 hour to eat. The wild flowers were impressive. There was still large patches of snow with many different water falls cascading down the mountain, perhaps this is the reason for the name of the canyon. We were very tired at the end but satisfied. We got home about 9:30pm. Paul went with us..We saw several Moose. A pair, male and female stood right in front of us on the trail. The bull moose looked like he might charge us once. We gave them plenty of space and walked around them. It was a little scarry.Paul loves the mountains and has climbed the Grand Teton.
We worked here at the house on Thurs. Then on Friday Annette and I took our double kayak and went over to string lake, and then onto Leigh lake. It was another loverly day. The lake was quiet and we had a nice day. We were a little tired but it was a nice time.
Today sunday we spoke in church. It was our last sunday here before our mission. I spoke about how remembering Christ had helped me often in my day to day life. Remembering Christ is something we promise when we partake of the sacrament. Remembering Christ helps me to do what is right and has helped me have His spirit. I have literally had a change in my dispostion to do wrong, and my mind has changed to do right.Christ has literally been my saviour, and prevented me from doing something stupid.
We continue to have our Mongolian lessons, although we will have a new teacher starting tomorrow."
For those runners among you I read a good book on our Kindle titled, "Born to Run" by Mcdougall. Quite inspiring.
Another thought that I want to share that can make temple attendance more meaningful. Go to the temple with the idea of serving someone else and not yourself. You then think more about the person(s) you are serving
    Love to all
